"Once Were Buttercups"

Once Were Buttercups print
Title:  "Once Were Buttercups"
Medium:  copper plate engraving
Size:  5" x 8 3/4"
Price:  $100 ( unframed )

Notes:   This piece is an earlier one and exists mainly as an exploration of a couple of challenges to the "drawing" in an  engraving.  Engraving is accomplished by cutting lines into a copper plate with a steel tool.  Historically, engravings have a tendency towards straight lines and cross hatching.   The creation of areas of heavy dark value are twofold: You have only lines to work with and have to try to make a surface that is not as static as a cross hatch can be.

This print is an exploration of some of the possibilities that curvilinear engraving might offer, both in creating value and describing form.
