Notes: I became intrigued with the concept of "taxonomy." Thinking about the natural world and the criteria we have chosen to determine which things are alike and which aren't led me to this image. I collected a wide variety of ( mostly ) naturally-occurring materials and objects and assembled a "specimen," which I then mounted and used as the model for the engraving.
"Fuyubachi" means "winter bee" in Japanese. Somehow that seemed fitting.
